SYNOPSIS : In January 2016 I had the pleasure of meeting artist Oliver Jay Heperi, a musician residing in Christchurch, New Zealand, and his partner, Kritara. Though I was there on vacation to do a motorbike tour of the country with my girlfriend, something compelled me to bring far more video gear that such a trip would warrant. I suppose the saying “nothing ever happens by chance” is very apt!Oliver was discussing with friends the possibility of having some kind of video for his music created and, having overheard the conversation, I introduced myself and volunteered to use the equipment I brought. The outcomes have been a series of videos around Oliver’s song “Paradise” which was shot live at The Astro Lounge in Christchurch, NZ!Why a series? The collaboration has allowed both of us to grow as artists in new and exciting directions. Oliver, discovering a visual “look” to complement his music & unique style; and myself, learning to extend my film making skills to encompasses and bring to fruition the extension of another artist’s medium from sound to vision.Presented here is the “final” version of the series of three videos created around the song.
