SYNOPSIS : The dance film No Sorrow, No Joy explores the possibility of authenticity within human relationships through a constructed act of “testing.” When the man stages his own death to verify the woman’s feelings, their relationship is transformed into a structural experiment. Once the test begins, every response can no longer arise from genuine emotion, but becomes a reaction to the structure itself. In contrast to Zhuangzi’s philosophy of life and death as natural transformation, death here becomes a tool of control and verification. The woman’s final act of breaking the structure rejects the logic of the test, revealing a paradox of intimacy: the more one attempts to prove love, the less possible love becomes.
